1. Fall 2011 Theological Boot Camp

The Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin is one of the most important works of theology ever written. In four volumes, the reformer examined topics ranging from epistemology (how we know what we know) to eschatology (the doctrine of the end times). The Christian world owes much to men like John Calvin, and this fall we will be dedicating our Sunday evenings to studying his magnum opus.

Join us as we discuss the ideas that had such an impact, not only on the Christian Church, but on the entire world. Beginning on Sunday, October 2nd, we will be challenged to think deeply about the Christian faith, digging deep into the profound truths of Scripture, and discussing how these truths should impact our lives.

Will it be challenging? Yes.

Will it stretch us to the limit? Yes.

Will it be easy? No.

But will it be worth it? Yes!

And that's why we're calling this study our "Theological Boot Camp." In military training, "boot camp" is challenging, it stretches recruits to their limits, and it brings out the best in those who persevere. Consider this course as "basic training" for the Christian life. It won't be easy. It's going to require effort - intellectual, emotional, and spiritual effort. But we trust that by God's grace, it will be worth it. After all, if we're going to "fight the good fight of faith," if we want to "take hold fo the eternal life to which we were called," we need to be prepared. And no one ever said that going into battle was supposed to be easy! Preparation may be challenging, but it is necessary, and what's more, it can be a joyful, refreshing experience.

So if you're interested in spending a few months' worth of Sunday evenings studying at the feet of one of the masters of Christian theology, please join us! The course is free, and all you'll need is a Bible, a copy of Calvin's Institutes, a notebook, a pen, and a willing spirit. To register, contact Pastor Jim via email - pastorjim(at)pgchurch.ca, or call (250) 562-9542). We look forward to what we hope will be an exciting, thought-provoking, and fun experience that will engage all of our heart, soul, and mind.

"Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:13).

"In your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you" (1 Peter 3:15)."Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called..." (1 Timothy 6:12).

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal fo your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2).
